There are certain procedures which most practitions areprepared to acquire nowadays on an individual level which can also be used ingroup working. Whethe you work in a Kabbalistic manner, are Wiccan/Pagan or aresimply interested in enhancing your own magickal working, certain techniqueswill be fundamental to your practice.

This is because the practitioners of old recognised thatthey — in their own way — were intermediaries between the Higher Being or Godsand the physical material world. Right from the beginning they needed some wayof:

1. Feeling different while working magickally.

2. Defining those differences.

3. Marking a space in which they could work safelywithout interference from either malign powers or interfering humans.

It was often safer to work alone in those days, for therewas little understanding by the ordinary person of either what the energieswere or even how they worked. If a malign energy did manifest then it could be containedwithin the designated space; the practitioner was at his most powerful withinthat space and yet at the same time he had done all the was necessary to ensurethat he was a fit vehicle for whatever he needed to do.

The rituals which were developed then have stood the testof time and be used today in much the same way. Indeed, as mentioned before,because the ritual have been performed so often for specific magickal purpose,they have developed an energy of their own and become powerful in their ownright.

For example, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagramcan be performed on your own to purify a room for further magickal work ormeditation and also can be used for protection. It has a might higher vibrationthan simply casting a circle, however, and in addressing the Archangels appealsto the highest authority for protection and assistance. Rather than appealingto the Elements, we now go to those beings or energies who are in charge of theElements and make a direct appeal to them. When we use the old names we linkinto a stream off consciousness that quite literally has a resonance thatcauses a reaction within the universe. From the reaction there is a shift orresponse in everything in existence. Not only do we dignify the Archangels we dignifyourselves.
